Academics Overview
The curriculum followed by Holy Family of Nazareth School is approved by the Diocese of Dallas and the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department for use in accredited schools.
At HFNS we provide a faith-based, academic environment where students prepare to enter higher levels of education of their choosing. The school provides an atmosphere where children are free to grow and learn. We fulfill the academic, spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of each student through required courses, supplementing with enrichment programs and educational field trips as needed. The resources of the library and computer lab are available to students to further enhance their learning.
The teaching of authentic Catholic doctrine is supported by the building of community and rendering of service to God, Church, and neighbor. Religion is the core of the entire curriculum. The program design is two-fold, in that we present a well-organized exposition of subject matter, and bring each student to a personal experience of his/her faith and a deeper knowledge of Jesus Christ as He is revealed to us through the Bible and the various people around us.
In the primary grades, emphasis is placed on:
- Reading
- Mathematics
- Religion
While in the upper grades, we offer and emphasize:
- Religion (Sacraments, Church history, Catholic doctrine, liturgy)
- English (literature, grammar, composition)
- Mathematics (basic mathematics, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry prep)
- Science (life science, global science, physical science)
- Social Studies (Texas history, United States history, World history)
- Physical/Health Education
- Computer Science
- Fine Arts
In Teaching social awareness, we firmly believe and teach that Catholics of every age should be fervently involved in community service. To that end, Eighth Grade Students are required to perform (40) hours of community service prior to graduation.
